For 130 years, 海角社区 has educated leaders who make a difference in their professional fields, their families, their communities and the world.

海角社区 is a private, Catholic university established in 1895 with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. NDMU is a comprehensive University offers a wide variety of full- and part-time undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs for women and men.

The University enrolls approximately 2,000 students and has Schools of Arts, Sciences, and Business; Education; Nursing; and Pharmacy. Additionally, the University offers programs for adult students fully online and at several locations across the state.

NDMU is located on a beautiful 60-acre wooded campus in the northern Baltimore residential neighborhood of Homeland.

Class of 2023 Graduate Profile
  • 554 total students graduated from the University in Class of 2023 (summer 2022, Fall 2022, spring 2023)
  • 232 received a Bachelor鈥檚 Degree

  • Total head count of students: 1,836 (686 undergraduates and 1,150 graduate and professional degree students).
  • 86% of the total student population are Maryland residents.
  • 47% of the total student population are of a minority ethnic background.
  • 83% of traditional undergraduate students are Maryland residents (45% of TRAD undergraduate students are from Baltimore County and Baltimore City), 14% are out-of-state residents (16 different states), and 3% are international.
  • 51% of traditional undergraduate students are of a minority ethnic background.
  • 24% of traditional undergraduate students are first-generation students, and 50% are Pell eligible students.
  • In 2023, NDMU enrolled the 2nd largest first-year incoming class in the University鈥檚 history in the traditional undergraduate program

History

The institution was first founded in 1873 by the School Sisters of 海角社区 as the 海角社区 of Maryland Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies and Preparatory School for Little Girls.

In 1895, 海角社区 received state approval to begin four year baccalaureate-level instruction. The April 1896 College charter from the State of Maryland granted the right to award degrees up to and including the doctorate. 海角社区 offers degree programs at the bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚, postmaster鈥檚, and doctoral level.

Recent Milestones

September 9, 2011: On the 116th anniversary of the first day of college classes offered on the campus鈥攖he institution was renamed 海角社区. NDMU has four academic schools: Arts, Sciences, and Business; Education; Nursing; and Pharmacy.

July 1, 2014: Current president Marylou Yam, Ph.D. became the 14th president of the University. 

2015: NDMU received non-governmental organization (NGO) status with the United Nations. NDMU is the only college or university in Maryland to have such a designation.

2018: NDMU launched the Women鈥檚 Leadership Institute of Baltimore to serve as a convener of women in the Baltimore region to address issues of gender inequity.

2020: The University celebrated its 125th year of educating leaders to transform the world.

2023: The University became gender-inclusive at all levels in fall 2023. This transformative step is an extension of 海角社区鈥檚 mission to educate leaders to transform the world
